Material characterization and Multiscale material modeling. My research focuses on material characterization and computational modeling/simulation of materials, including biological materials, metals, and composites, that aim to predict the material behaviors and inspire next-generation engineering solutions.

Research Focus

My research focuses on the engineering design principles and functional performance of hierarchically designed nature’s materials and their application.By studying the microstructure-properties-function relationships in natural materials, I aim to inspire and guide the development of more advanced and purposefully designed novel synthetic materials.

Bio-mimicry

Biomechanics, biological materials, and bio-inspired design, including impact mitigation from periodic microstructures like woodpecker beaks.

Nanotextures

Investigating nanotextured surfaces with superhydrophobic or antibacterial properties experimentally and computationally.

Machine Learning

Sensor-fusion and data analysis for prognostic health monitoring, signal data analysis, and anomaly prediction.

Modeling & Analysis

Computational modeling (Abaqus/LS-Dyna, LAMMPS), 3D reconstruction from CT/MRI, and acoustic wave propagation using ultrasound.
